On Sunday Caleb turned 3 months old! Not only does the time feel like it is going by fast, but Caleb's weight gain seems to be happening fast too! At 3 months, Caleb weighs 16 lbs. and is 25 inches long (for all you percentile freaks that would make him 95th percentile for weight and 90th percentile for height). Which just goes to show that every child is different, because Aidan weighed 16 lbs. when he was 4 months old. In fact, Caleb is so big and chubby that even though he's 3 months old, he needs to wear 9 month clothing right now! Anyways, Caleb is evolving more and more into his own every month, so at 3 months this is what I can tell you about our baby boy:
* He loves to feed (breastmilk & formula) every 2 -3 hours!
* He sleeps like a rock at night! Going to sleep around 10:30pm and sleeping straight through the night until 10:30am. I can't tell you how much Mike and I appreciate that he currently sleeps like this at night, it is such a blessing! With Caleb sleeping til 10:30am in the morning it gives me time to spend some quality time with Aidan - doing devotions, reading stories & cuddling, and talking about stuff during breakfast.
* Even though Caleb sleeps like a champ at night, he only takes extremely short naps during the day (usually his naps last about 15 min.) However, I'm not complaining. I mean, if I can't have it all...I'll take the sleeping through the night part hands down!
* Caleb LOVES to coo and gurgle (we call it "talking" in the house) when people talk to him. He's very loud when he's expressing himself like this. In fact, he is a much LOUDER baby than Aidan was. This baby always has something to say, and it is really funny to hear him belt it out.
* Caleb prefers to sit up most of the time than lie on his back, so most of the time when he is not feeding we have him sitting in his blue Bumbo chair or sitting on someone's lap. Aidan thought Caleb's Bumbo chair looked pretty special so he begged for Mike and I to buy him one. Luckily, one of my friends had one from when her daughter was a baby and was in the process of getting rid of it...to ME! So almost every day Aidan and Caleb use their Bumbo chairs to sit and watch TV next to each other, sit on the front steps outside and watch people, or sit across from each other and just "talk". It is extremely cute to watch!
* Caleb will tolerate a lot from Aidan. I think because he loves Aidan so much, he puts up with a lot of Aidan's roughness (Aidan is still is learning that even though Caleb is quite big right now, that he is still a baby and needs to be played with GENTlLY). What amazes me is that even when Aidan gets too rough, Caleb won't cry. He'll actually YELL at Aidan as if to say "Hey! Take it easy!". Caleb will cry though when Aidan scares him by sneaking up and screaming when he is feeding (which will send Aidan straight for the time-out chair).
* Caleb seems to enjoy lying in bed with Aidan snuggled under the covers and listening to Aidan talk.
* Caleb does not like being in his car seat (that goes for both in and out of the car). So we currently have him enrolled in the "Lee Family Car Seat Therapy" program - which means playing soothing music in the car along with strapping a busy toy bar to his car seat. And since we've been doing this Caleb has been crying a whole lot less when he is taken out for rides in the car. Yeah!
* Caleb's favorite thing to do lately (besides feeding) has been to be held standing up and talk to people. He LOVES to do this. He also LOVES to takes baths. As soon as his chubby tree trunks hit that water he produces BIG smiles and wild movements of excitement. It makes Mike and I laugh to see how much this chubby bunny loves to get naked and immerse his Buddah figure in some bath water.
* A lot of smiles come from Caleb lately, especially when you shake his tummy, sing to him, or talk to him when he is being held standing up.
* Caleb loves to look at mirrors, people, and especially the TELEVISION.
* When Caleb is fussy, being held outside calms him down the most consistently, so Dad is often the one who assists with that since he loves taking the grandkiddies outside.
* Caleb is definitely the little prince of the house...since we live with so much family in one house, Caleb is almost always being held by someone. In fact, we have to make quite an effort to make sure that this baby get some tummy time in. So with all this spoiled holding, our baby probably won't be turning over or walking for a long time. Which is o.k., because this house is a FAR cry from being baby-proofed.
* All of Aidan's friends LOVE to play with Caleb, which I have to be careful about when bringing him to Aidan's playdates because Aidan will often get jealous when his friends crowd around his baby brother in curiosity instead of playing with him. But I must say that is is cute to see Caleb surrounded by curious kids asking me if they can hold him or feed him a bottle, or they gawk when I need to change Caleb's diaper. When this happens though, Aidan has to stand near Caleb, hold him (with my help), and announce to all the kids that this is HIS baby brother and he has the ultimate right to hold him and cuddle him whenever he wants. It's a trip to watch him get so possessive.
Well, that's all I can tell you for 3 months right now. I'll be sure to keep you posted as more things develop with this little...oops...I mean, big baby!
